NCWise - Student Information

North Carolina Window of Information on Student Education, NC WISE, is a web-based, integrated, and secure tool for effectively managing student information and improving instruction in North Carolina schools. NC WISE provides teachers, principals, counselors, nurses, central office staff, and others with direct and immediate access to a full spectrum of data on a student's entire career in the North Carolina school system.

NC WISE supports federal and state reporting requirements associated with No Child Left Behind, ABCs Accountability, School Report Card, and Closing The Gap.

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction has created an informational Brochure as well as a User Benefits document for anyone interested in learning more about NC WISE.

Announcements
Accounts Locked
It is extremely important to log out of the system once you have created a new password, then log back in using your new password. When you change your password, NC WISE is creating a second session and is holding onto that second session "behind the scenes". When you then try to run a report, the system creates a third session and locks you out. NC WISE allows users to keep only two sessions open. However, if you log off after creating a new password, then log back in, the second session closes and you will be able to continue working.
Total Points Gradebook Setup Caution

Teachers who want to use a "Total Points" gradebook setup should not check the "Use Assesment Type Weights" check box, but should go ahead and use different master assessment types so that homework, classwork, quizzes, test, etc. performance can be analyzed separately during the grading cycle.

Download Files
 Multiple JAR File Downloads.pdf
The NC WISE eSIS application requires Oracle JInitiator. When accessing eSIS, the JInitiator will download new code to the workstation. This code is packaged in several java archive files, or jar files, and JInitiator stores these on the workstation for future sessions so the repeated download is unnecessary. When this happens a dialog box will appear with the message “downloading program components.” A total of about 1.4 megabytes of files are downloaded.
 NC WISE Web-based Training.pdf
WBTs are available to assist new users’ training classes and for continuous training in several ways. These WBTs provide step-by-step instructions, guided demonstrations, hints & tips, and printable quick-reference guides.
Nearly 200 WBTs are available covering everything from the Teacher Assistant Module (TAM) to How To Drop a Student From a Course Section. These WBTs will be continually updated as new versions of software are released. The number of WBTs will also increase as lessons for UERS and YET become available. For your convenience, WBTs will be accessible via a web link from the main NC WISE web page, www.ncwise.org, and will be categorized on an index page.
